Detailed Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Set a steamer basket inside a pot and pour in water until it reaches just beneath the basket's base. Heat the water until it boils. Incorporate the peas, put the lid on, and cook via steam for roughly 15 minutes or until they reach a soft texture.

  2. 2

Combine the breast milk and peas inside a food processor or blender, then process the mixture until it becomes smooth. Pass the contents through a fine-mesh strainer to get rid of any remaining chunks.

  3. 3

Distribute the pea purée into the compartments of an ice cube tray, seal with cling film, and freeze for 2 to 3 hours until completely set. Move the solid cubes into a sealable freezer bag for long-term storage.

  4. 4

When ready to feed, warm the cubes in a microwave for approximately half a minute until they reach a safe, lukewarm temperature. Mix well before serving.

This turned out wonderfully! However, I would advise against using the microwave for warming—I probably don't need to explain the reasoning! Thanks for sharing this recipe!

I apply this technique for all the baby food I prepare at home, and it stores perfectly in the freezer. Since I didn't have enough pumped breast milk available, I thinned the peas using the leftover water from the steaming process. That liquid retains vitamins and nutrients released during cooking. This is a fantastic resource for moms and dads!
